VIDEO CCR
How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Before starting work on a video, I analyzed various music videos to identify similarities and consistency. I analyzed Stillz's music videos, which featured an extended wardrobe, good production, and numerous transitions. I decided to follow these conventions in the video, not copying them. I also analyzed the movements and transitions I wanted to achieve and tried to break them down to replicate them. After a second filming section, I was able to successfully film the clips and added transitions like changing clothes, putting on jewelry, and a continuation shot. I also modified the speed of certain clips, such as the character walking through clothes, to make the clips more engaging for the audience. I also incorporated a change in the camera's speed to make the transitions more noticeable.
In the product that I got from the video I was able to stick into a social group which is younger adults (teenagers) I was able to succeed this by making the main character a teenager. On my video the social issue that we have is bullying as well as self consciousness. The main goal of my video is to show the youth that they are capable of overcoming that insecurity of dressing the way that they can. The main character in the video tries on many outfits. Which are all spontaneous outfits that he is trying on and he decides to stay with the last outfit which is supposed to be the most spontaneous one which gives the idea that he can wear whatever that he wants to wear and there is never a judgment that could affect him and avoid him from wearing what he wants.
How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Well my main goal when it came to the making of the video. I was aiming to put a lot of things together that could get the audience's attention. I focused on styling picking out multiple outfits which had a big variety of colors and fabrics on each one different outfits that I chose from. It was important for me to use this opportunity to show off different clothing items that will catch the audience's attention. Another strategy that I used to be able to catch the audience’s attention was by working on implementing a lot of effects on my video to always keep the audience busy looking at different things on the screen and consistently having effects like transitions which would force the audience to focus on the video to be able to process what is going on. On the video I made all the different things that bring attention to the video I made so that even if the audience watches just a few seconds of the video they are able to catch something that happens on the screen that is unusual and then basically invites them to keep watching what is going on the screen. The video lasts around a minute and 15 seconds. This is definitely a good time to be able to post this content on different social media sites like, Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Youtube, among other different sites. Since the video takes place in a clothing store the music video can also work as a commercial for those who are interested in fashion as well as vintage clothing. This video is worth it for social media. I made it so it's a short interactive clip with the audience which could potentially catch the viewers attention and make them watch it multiple times so that they could watch it multiple times. Another way that we could get views from this video is by attaching the music video into a QR that we can place in flyers for the business in order for the proper audience that we are targeting gets to view the video.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
I believe my production skills have developed to some extent, but they are not fully developed. The first step in the video production was creating a storyboard, which was not satisfactory due to lack of knowledge and experience. As the filming progressed, ideas kept coming up and modifying began, especially as the time frame was one minute. I was able to recorded the ideas and later I was able to control the video's time by editing clips. The storyboard changed multiple times, and I had two filming sections during the music video production. The lack of a tripod in the first filming section negatively affected the editing process. I realized that my skills helped to anticipate and perceive things from the perspective needed to film the video correctly later on the other filming section.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
Well most of the technology that was used on the making process of the video is mostly integrated to the production on the filming part of the video as well as the editing of the video. When it came to the set and the filming process we made sure that we used a tripod that helped us stabilize the camera which in result helped us keep the frame the same on the different scenes that we took. Another tool that we used on the filming of the video was the lighting which I made sure to always keep the same amount of lights on during the entirety of the filming process so that we didn't have any continuation problems where in one shot a part of the frame was dark and then it out of nowhere light up because that could had looked bad on the video. The main part that required the most technology was the editing of the video. I decided to use the app and software Cap-cut which in my opinion is a great app for people who lack experience and knowledge because it is a user friendly app with a simple and detailed desktop that allows me to know what functions those the app provide and shows me what effects I can input into my video. I was able to add my transitions by cutting the different clips that I filmed before of the main character using different outfits and with the same frame all I had to do was for the main character to be in the same position in both clips which is the reason why he jumps. When it came to the app I had to grab those two clips, cut them and match the position of the main character mid air and when both clips play in normal position it all seems like one single clip where all the character does is jump and he magically lands on a different outfit. I also made sure to speed those scenes where the character is doing slow actions like looking through clothes in order to stick with the time limit. Overall the editing process helped me and my skills improved as I edited more and more each clip
