Movie Research The Boogeyman

Image
For the past week the group has been researching various thriller movies, the movie we're researching at the moment is the Boogeyman.   The boogeyman was a very traditional and recent thriller movie using various conventions to thoroughly spook audiences and keep them drawn in. The boogey man utilizes loads of close-up shots on the actors faces to emphasize their acting and draws out fear and suspense in the audience. The boogeyman also uses phenomenal music which had me hiding under the covers. The music was sharp and intense, but also immensely ominous. Lastly the boogeyman used various costumes and props to immerse the audience.   The conventions of this movie that I enjoyed was the intricate use of music, settings and camera angles. The music in this movie captivated the essence of horror and left me terrified while I was watching and made the movie tremendously interesting to watch. The use of various settings in the film also made the film intriguing and prevented it from

Movie Research The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

For the past week the group has been researching various thriller movies, the movie we're researching at the moment is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.        The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TCM) is a long term favorite amongst scare enthusiasts and has touched the hearts of millions of fans. However, the most recent installment of the series is poorly rated by many due to its poor storyline. The TCM is a scary film and has some notable scenes that draw out fear in the audience but lack of interesting storyline makes it bland and unentertaining. The TCM uses tracking shots, close-ups and inserts. The TCM also uses very detailed props and costumes to immerse audiences such as chainsaws and leather masks.        The TCM fantastically uses jump scares and music to intensify the film and it truly terrifies the audience. The use of loud sounds leaves the audience cowering in fear and leaves them on the edge of their seats. The TCM also uses terrifying costumes to unsettle the audien

Wha t elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?    For this project we chose the thriller genre and the conventions in this movie help build suspense for the audience. The film uses flashbacks with the present timeline, exploring the backstory of the Jigsaw Killer and his victims. This adds depth to the characters, sheds light on their motivations, and creates a connection within the narrative. The film also uses slow zooms on key details, like ticking timers or hidden clues within the traps. This builds anticipation and draws the audience's attention to specific elements, heightening the suspense. What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like?   I liked the close-ups on faces, hands, and trapped body parts, amplifying the characters' fear and the gruesome details of the traps. These close-ups heighten the audience's anxiety and sense of claustrophobia, mimicking the victims' trapped e

Genre decision

Image
We’ve concluded on the thriller genre for our opening sequence , after long-awaited talks with my group mates.   This choice works perfectly for two different reasons , like giving a new perspective in filming and editing . The other reason is that it aligns seamlessly with our pitch.  Opting for the thriller genre not only aligns perfectly with our pitch it also comes wit h a lot of adv a ntages .  Thriller films of high quality can be achieved without the need for extravagant sets or elaborate props. Basic editing software and cameras prove sufficient, offering both entertainment and a sense of terror. This decision grants us budgetary flexibility, directing funds toward enhancing costumes and mise- en -scene for an improved film. My admiration for suspense movies, particularly their capacity to both frighten and captivate viewers, motivates me to attempt to evoke the same emotion in our opening sequence. The genre's adaptability also extends to the title scenes, where a va

Common movement tracking shots and tilts.  Common Mis-En-Scene : Common makeup is using fake blood for bloody or gory scenes. It also just depends on the character and what facial structure they want to emphasize. Common props are weapons such as knives, guns, or even a chainsaw. Another big one is screams or whispers.  Examples:  It (2017) and Talk To Me (2022)  Elemen

Research thriller genre

Genre:  Thriller Common Camera Angles, movement, and Shots: Common angles are Dutch, low, and high angles.  Low angles are  often used in thrillers to emphasize how powerful and intimidating a villain is.  Common movements are tracking and tilting.  These are used in thrillers and horrors to make it look like one of the characters is being followed or watched. It also helps the audience have a full view of the scene and what is happening but also helps build suspense and tension as the audience needs to learn what could be shown next.  Common shots are close-ups, reverse, extreme long shots, point-of-view shots, and over-the-shoulder shots.  This is one of the best ways to build up tension and suspense. It is mostly used around mirrors and reflections so the audience can see everything as soon as the character does. Common Mis-En-Scene:  Low lighting is common in creating shadows, which builds fear and tension. For props/sets, it is expected to use dark/ claustrophobic places to port

Our pitch

Image
Pitch A: Two friends are hanging out in the yard when suddenly feel like they’re being watched. Pitch B: Three people on a raft fighting off a shark… Explanation A: We’re definitely more interested in this one. This one is also easier to do probably. We took this idea from horror movies we’ve seen growing up. Definitely excited. We think it’ll be great. The plan is to make it scary. Explanation B: This idea is awesome. We got the inspiration from Jaws. Jaws was an awesome movie. One problem though, this would be very hard to do. Sharks are very scary though and horror is what we want to do. Why we chose A: We decided to go with A for a few reasons. One is that it’s a lot easier to film on land than at sea on a raft. Another thing is we think the killer/stalker is scarier than a shark. We believe we can make something great out of this. We’re all very excited to begin researching the genre.

Group Blog

Hello blog today is 01/2024. I know its being a while. But now that my music video is complete it’s time to move on. I just got assigned a new project and my next project is a group project. This time around the task is a little more challenging. I have been tasked with creating a movie opening scene. Specifically, the intro sequence for the movie. For this project I have decided to work with two students from my school. Julian Pacheco, and Rene Salmeron one of them is in the same class as me and the other one is on another class. But I worked with them on my last project and it went very well. We plan on meeting together frequently for this task. We have to first brainstorm so we know where to go though. I’ve got a couple ideas but I need to suggest them by my group mates first. I chose my group mates previously because we relate on many things and we have similar ideas. When we combine our ideas we create something amazing. This was very apparent in our music video. I am very excite

I have had the opportunity to learn many things due to the free education that the government offers to all kids. During this past years living in the USA I notice there is a big scene when it comes to the making of videos and I consider it an art. I see a lot of artist expressing there personality and ideas through there art like: music, photography, styling, paintings among many other ways of expressing themselves. So far what caught my attention the most was definitely styling and the making of vid
